Nicole Ari Parker, an American actress who has appeared in film and on television, and in stage productions, is known for portraying Teri Joseph, the fiery lawyer in the show Showtime's Soul Food. Following her graduation from high school Contractor accepted a scholarship at The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained an advanced degree in theatre. Contractor, who had completed her university degree and auditioned in an open audition for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the role. Her performance received rave reviews. her work in the 92 shows performed this play, which was named as the best production by Canadian critics in 2002. She was invited to attend Stratford's conservatory. This is a course which allows just four men and eight women are able to take an intensive 20-week training in classical theater. She was scheduled to perform in the following play-season was confirmed and she was cast in the role in Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
